Location: Seafront, near Filipino craft market, Kota Kinabalu

Opening hours: 5:30pm – 12pm.

Described as “Seafood Heaven”, this night market in the city of Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia is where to go for a wide selection of delicious fresh seafood. Tourists roam, as well as locals, this market as there is ready to eat food at affordable prices. Who doesn’t love to stroll through a market and eat amazing food?

It is also surrounded by many seafood restaurants such as Fish Market Restaurant  specialising in the concept of ‘steam seafood’.

The market has plenty of fresh foods from fish, different types of prawns, crabs, squid, stingray and live lobsters with various special sauces - all ready to be put onto a grill and cooked in front of you. This causes people to eat at the market several nights during their stay to try the different food options.

What you need to know:

  • The recommended time to eat is 8/9pm

  • Bargain prices (watch how locals do this) as prices are seasonal

  • Pay in cash only

  • Learn some Malay such as “how much? = Berapa banyak?"

  • Drinks are expensive, bring your own beer!

  • Locals tend to eat just with their hands, ask for a spoon or fork

Hope you enjoyed and visit this market when in Malaysia!
